    Mother’s Day at Montgomery Bakehouse

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and that means it’s time for one of our favorite events of the year here at Montgomery Bakehouse:  our Mother’s Day cake decorating event! This year we’re holding our decorating day in the Party Room on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you definitely don’t want to miss it.

    Fun for the Whole Family

Do you have a young baker or chef in your family, or perhaps an artist in training? Our cake decorating day is the perfect family activity to get your kids inspired to give mom a handmade treat for Mother’s Day. Have Dad bring the kids by the bakery to decorate a fresh-baked cake for Mom for a delicious surprise. They can let their imaginations run wild as they decorate a dessert for Mom. Keep it a secret and present it to her for brunch on Sunday, or dig in together when you get home if you can’t wait to show her!

Mom, this is also a great activity to enjoy with your children. They’re sure to remember the fun you have working together, and you can present your sweet masterpiece to Grandma on Mother’s Day. Or you can bring Grandma along for a special outing with your kids while you enjoy some quiet time to yourself. There’s no wrong way to do cake decorating day!

    What’s Included

For $13, we include a 7-inch single layer cake — you choose whether you prefer chocolate or vanilla. We also provide a spread of icing, a variety of fun sprinkles and decorations, and a special Mother’s Day plaque to decorate with, so you can customize your cake any way you like. The Party Room is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you don’t need a reservation. Just show up with your imagination and your sweet tooth, and we’ll make sure you have a fun day and a great dessert to take home for Mother’s Day.

  • Perfect Pairings for Your Morning Coffee

Perfect Pairings for Your Morning Coffee

Is there anything better than waking up — without a beeping alarm! — to the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee? That first sip is a joy and awakens all of your senses. Sure, the caffeine helps, but real coffee lovers know it’s more than just the jolt that makes your java so special. There a ritual of pouring, stirring, sipping and taking in its scent that makes a quiet morning something to celebrate.

Well, we can think of one way to enhance the experience. With the right treat to go with your coffee, you can turn your liquid fuel into a delicious continental breakfast. Baked goods are the perfect partner for your morning mug, so check out our suggestions for the ideal treat to pair with your coffee — no matter how you take it.

When You Take Your Coffee Black

The bitter complexity of black coffee pairs well with a decadently sweet, creamy treat. Cream horns, éclairs and our original cheesecake are all great choices to balance a cup of coffee that needs no adornment.

When You Take Your Coffee With Cream

Coffee with cream is slightly sweet, and it has a texture all its own: silky and smooth. This drink pairs well with fruit-based desserts, since their touch of tartness cuts through the creaminess in your cup. Try a slice of cherry pie, an apricot turnover or one of our fruit-filled coffee cakes.

When your coffee is sweet, try a specialty bread with your coffee. Apple pecan bread is a delicious choice, as is our unique cinnamon swirl bread. We also really love a classic apple pie with a slightly sweet coffee!

The sweetest, creamiest coffee of all make a great counterpoint to a savory treat. Our breakfast kolaches are just the thing, and you can choose from cheese, sausage and jalapeño cheddar.  You can also make your own breakfast sandwich by adding a cooked egg and a slice of ham to a jalapeño cheddar hamburger bun.

The Meaning of Mardi Gras Colors

Ever wonder what the colors of the King Cake mean? We did! Think about those values as you eat your portion of a delicious King Cake this year – which color speaks to you the most?

king-cake-slices-1500pxThough we tend to associate King Cake with Mardi Gras celebrations, you don’t have to wait until February 28 to enjoy a slice! King Cakes are popular in New Orleans in the week of celebrations and parades leading up to Ash Wednesday of course, but they’re also popular around the world as a way to celebrate Epiphany on January 6. The kings that give this treat its name are the three wise men, whose trip to see the newborn baby Jesus is celebrated on Epiphany.

Whether you choose to get your King Cake in January, February, or hope to sample all our delicious flavors before they’re gone, it’s easy to order your King Cakes online from Montgomery Bakehouse!

  • Classic Christmas Cakes From Montgomery Bakehouse

Classic Christmas Cakes From Montgomery Bakehouse

    christmas cakes

Nothing says “Merry Christmas!” like a cake from Montgomery Bakehouse! We’re proud to be part of so many Texas families’ holiday traditions this time of year, and we hope you’ll stop by to say hello and pick up one of our seasonal specialties this month. We’ll even be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout December to help you get all your holiday shopping finished on time!

Not sure what to choose? We know our selection can be a little overwhelming at first, but you can never go wrong with one — or both! — of these Christmas classics:

    Fruitcake

Forget what all those tired old comedians say — they’ve obviously never had a bite of our special fruitcake, or they’d retire their jokes for good. Fruitcake gets a bad rap due to its density. It’s true that the original fruitcakes of European origin were more like bread in their texture, but a well-baked fruitcake is nothing like the hockey pucks you hear about. If you’ve never had fruitcake before, try ours: We’ve converted more skeptics into die-hard fans than we can count!

    Nativity Cake

Our Christmas tradition is getting an update this year with adorable new figurines to adorn our tasty scene. Available in chocolate or vanilla, this semi-circular cake is iced to look like a stable and forms a delicious backdrop to the manger scene. It comes complete with a star on top! We can’t think of a better way to remind your children and loved ones of the true meaning of Christmas than with this sweet treat.

We’ve also got a great collections of holiday pies, cookies and other delights that are sure to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth this holiday season. Which will become your new family tradition?

  • Happy Thanksgiving

    Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and we don’t want you to miss out on Montgomery Bakehouse desserts to accompany your Thanksgiving feast. We will be open on Wednesday, November 25th, until 6 P.M. and closed on Thanksgiving Day, so be sure to place your order in time. Some favorites for Thanksgiving include our pies, pumpkin rolls, and sweet breads, and if you aren’t a pie person, we have some tasty turkey cakes that are perfect for your dining room table. We also have 821corn bread, bisc020 (1)uits, and dinner rolls to go with your turkey and gravy. With Thanksgiving so close, it is always good to remember why we celebrate Thanksgiving today. When the Pilgrims arrived in the fall of 1620, they were not prepared for the harsh winter they would experience in
New England. Because of this, many of them died before spring. It was around spring, that two Indians named Samoset and Squanto helped teach the Pilgrims how to live off the land, and built a long lasting peace treaty between the two groups of people. That summer, the Pilgrims reaped a large harvest, therefore they felt it necessary to have a three day feast in December to thank God for their harvest and to celebrate with their Indian friends. For their first Thanksgiving feast, 90 Indians joined 50 Pilgrims. Their feast included shellfish, lobsters, turkey, corn bread, berries, deer, and other foods. They also participated in fun activities and prayer. For more great information on the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, visit http://www.waIMG_4587llbuilders.com/libissuesarticles.asp?id=17984. It is so important for us to reflect on everything we have this Thanksgiving, and thank God for everything He has given us, just as the Pilgrims did in 1621. We should also continue to thank God for this great nation that He was instrumental in creating through great people like the Pilgrims and also continue to pray for our nation and our leaders.
