Plan Your Memorial Day Picnic with Montgomery Bakehouse

Montgomery Bakehouse will be OPEN on Memorial Day!

A portion of our sales on Memorial Day will go towards an organization that our family has partnered with for years: The Mighty Oaks Warrior Program. This is a faith-based program for soldiers with PTSD that started right here in our community. We hope you can join us to support this worthy cause!

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, so it’s full of picnics, road races, festivals and other fun events to get the best season of the year off to a good start. If you’re planning to host a picnic or barbecue for family and friends, let Montgomery Bakehouse help you with some of the details. We’ve got loads of great options for finger foods and sweet treats that are perfect for outdoor entertaining. Here are some of our favorites for summer celebrations:

    • Baklava:This delicious Greek pastry is perfect for a special occasion. Flaky filo dough is filled with honey and pecans for a decadent — and different — treat. Baklava triangles make perfect finger foods.
    • French Macaroons:These brightly colored cookie sandwiches are ideal for outdoor gatherings since their bright colors are eye-catching in even the brightest light. Macaroons come in many flavors, so be sure to try a variety to make your picnic table sparkle.
    • Whoopie Pies:Perfect for kids and adults alike, these cream-filled sandwich cakes are a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition that is sure to please. Chocolate is traditional, but we also recommend chocolate chip.
    • Cream Horns:Got a family of icing lovers? Skip the cake and give everyone what they really want with these flaky pastries. They’re filled to the brim with delectable buttercream, and they’re easy to serve as finger foods on a mixed dessert tray.
    • Cupcakes:Always a classic, cupcakes are the original portable dessert. Get yours in chocolate or vanilla and choose from a variety of fun decorations to enhance your Memorial Day decorating themes.
    • Hamburger Rolls:Don’t forget the buns! Grilling up burgers is a time-honored Memorial Day tradition, so complete your cookout with our homemade hamburger buns — guaranteed to take your barbecue to the next level.

If you’re serving a crowd, consider ordering your goodie trays in advance. We’ll do all the work — all you have to do is pick up your items the morning of your party. Your guests will love the desserts, and you’ll love how easy it is to make it all happen!

  • Autumn Is Pie Season!

    Autumn Is Pie Season!

As the weather turns cooler, farmers everywhere are bringing in the last of their crops, and that means farmers markets are chock-full of delicious fruits and vegetables this time of year. What better way to enjoy the bounty of the land than to bake top-notch natural ingredients into a delicious pie? At Montgomery Bakehouse, fall means gathering up the best of the harvest and using it to make our favorite pie recipes.

So what’s in season right now? Here are some of our favorite fall pies:

    • Apple Pie: Mom’s American classic has a thick, fruity filling that’s perfectly spiced. The classic version has a latticework pastry crust so you get a touch of saltiness with your sweet. It’s also available in a sugar-free version.
    • Caramel Apple Pie: A different twist on the tradition, this pie has a rich crumble coating on top and is drizzled with gooey, delicious caramel sauce. It’s a decadent choice for a crisp autumn evening.
    • Pecan Pie: The sugary filling of this Southern favorite is topped with rich, crunchy pecans. This classic is available in personal 4-inch pies or standard 8 and 10-inch pies for a crowd.
    • Chocolate Pecan Pie: For some people, it’s just not dessert with chocolate. That’s why we added a gooey drizzle of melted chocolate over the top of our class pecan pie — it’s delish!
    • Pumpkin Pie: The star of the holiday season is most definitely a smooth and creamy pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spice is everywhere these days, but there’s no better way to get your fix than in the original pastry version.

October is a great time to put down the summertime ice cream and pick up an autumnal pie — or two! This is the perfect time of year to test drive a new pie for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, too. Conduct your scientific tests and get your family’s opinions on a few varieties now so you’ll know just what to pre-order when the holidays arrive. They’re right around the corner, so it’s never too early to plan ahead for your perfect feast! Give us a call to learn more. 936-756-1745.

Our homestyle cookie trays are just the thing for making sure your whole clan gets a favorite dessert. We also make cut-out cookies that can highlight your football theme — don’t forget to ask us about using team colors for the decorations!

Kick your burgers up a notch with our fresh-baked hamburger buns, and you’ll never go back to bland grocery store version again. You can also provide dinner rolls and sliced bread for picnic sandwiches. If you haven’t tried our jalapeño cheddar bread, you’ve been missing out on a major flavor sensation! It’s perfect for sandwiches, but we think it can also stand alone.

    Don’t Forget the Fundraisers!

If your favorite football heroes rely on fundraising to cover their uniform and traveling expenses, help them out with an easy, effective Montgomery Bakehouse fundraiser. When you sell our famous pies to your supporters, they receive a ticket that they use to come pick up their dessert at the Bakehouse. It’s the easiest fundraiser around, and you don’t have to worry about delivering delicate pies to all your friends and neighbors. Check it out!

  • Celebrate National Read a Book Day at Montgomery Bakehouse

Celebrate National Read a Book Day at Montgomery Bakehouse

Did you know that September 6 is National Read a Book Day? What a great idea! There’s no better way to celebrate the fact the kids across the nation are back in school and ready to further their educations than by picking up a book yourself. After all, reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn, and we can all be great role models to celebrate the joys of reading.

    Reading Is Fundamental

Research has shown that early childhood literacy is crucial for helping students develop vocabulary and the decoding skills needed to be on track for solid reading skills once they get to school. Later in elementary school, students shift from learning to read into reading to learn — usually somewhere between third and fifth grade. If a child falls behind in his or her reading skills at this point, it’s very hard to keep up with classmates in just about every subject.

    Reading Is Fun!

Even though it’s critically important, learning to read should also be joyful. The goal is, of course, to create strong readers, but you also want your child to use that skill. At Montgomery Bakehouse, we want to foster that love of reading by celebrating National Read a Book Day in style. That’s why we’re hosting a free story hour on September 6, 2017. We’ll get the party started at 10 a.m. when your kids will enjoy story time while you get to sip some coffee and snack on our favorite bakery treats. It’s a great way to socialize with some other parents while your kids have a blast!

    backtoschoolcookie

In the spirit of National Read a Book Day, we’ll also be hosting a book drive to help children in need. If your child brings a book to donate to the Hailey Elementary School, we’ll give him or her a cookie in return to say thanks for their generosity. If you didn’t know, our very own Jason Schenk is a teacher at Hailey Elementary, so this is a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts. We hope to see you there!

  • Get to Know Your Customer Day at Montgomery Bakehouse

Get to Know Your Customer Day at Montgomery Bakehouse

    August 14, 2017, from 4-7 p.m.

At Montgomery Bakehouse, we know that we wouldn’t have much of a bakery at all if it weren’t for our fantastic customers! To say thank you and to strengthen our community, we’re hosting a special gathering all about getting to know each other. Get to Know Your Customer Day should be fun for the whole family — and of course, we’ll supply some delicious treats while we’re at it!

    We’ll Go First …

To break the ice, we thought we’d start by telling you a little bit more about us. We obviously love to bake, and it’s been in our blood for generations. The first Schenk family bakery was established in 1938 in German Town, PA when Mum-Mum and Pop-Pop first moved to the States from Germany. Family recipes were passed down, and now Tim Schenk — Pop-Pop’s grandson! — along with his wife Heather and their three children are proud to bring you the goodies you love right here in Texas.

In addition to baking, we’re passionate about education and giving back to our wonderful community. One way we do this is through Project Mentor, a program that connects local kids with caring adults to help guide them through not just their learning, but also through the complex process of growing up. We’re also working with the Providence Classical School to further their mission of educating youth to be not just good students, but good Christians, too. We believe the deep personal connections across generations provide a foundation for developing the whole person, and we’re proud to partner with these wonderful groups. We’ll have volunteers from both of these great organizations here on Get to Know Your Customer Day to share more about their work, too.

Getting to Know All About You

Now that you know a bit more about us, what’s your story? Come down to Montgomery Bakehouse for a meet and greet with the whole Schenk family and share your thoughts about anything from cookies to our community and neighborhood. You’ll be treated to our dessert bar and get a goodie bag to take home. Get to Know Your Customer Day is on August 14, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. We can’t wait to see you! You can RSVP and let us know you’re coming on Facebook!
