  • Don’t Miss Out on a Mardi Gras Tradition

Don’t Miss Out on a Mardi Gras Tradition

Mardi Gras season is here, and what better way to celebrate than with a Montgomery Bakehouse king cake? King Cakes have an intriguing history and taste delicious. Derived from the French tradition, the King Cake  is eaten on the twelfth day of Christmas, which is January 6th to 029celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. The cake represents the story of the three wise men coming to see baby Jesus. The cake is decorated with icing and sugar on top. The sugars on top are green, purple, and yellow. Each color has a different meaning. The color green represents faith, purple represents justice, and yellow represents power. Each of these characteristics help remind us of the way the wise men travelled from afar to bring gifts to the newborn king. The plastic baby on top has a significant meaning as well. The baby is meant to represent baby Jesus. It is typically placed inside the cake, and whoever gets the baby is said to have to throw the Mardi Gras party next year and has to buy the king cake next year. Our king cakes come in a variety of flavors. We have cream cheese, cherry, cherry cream cheese, cinnamon butter, pecan 028praline, Bavarian, and chocolate Bavarian. We will be selling King Cakes until Fat Tuesday, or the day before Ash Wednesday. It is best to call to place your order for your king cake to make sure to get the flavor you want, and you can do this by calling us at 936-756-1745, or coming in to place your order. Every year after moving to Texas, our family celebrates Mardi Gras by eating a king cake to start off the season, and by eating a king cake on Fat Tuesday, the last day of the season. Even if you aren’t French or Cajun, Mardi Gras gives you the perfect excuse to eat something delicious!
