We all love special traditions that we always remember even as adults. These family traditions make every holiday season so special, and often times it is difficult to start a 912tradition that everyone in the family enjoys and looks forward to every year. Having a fun afternoon or evening of decorating is the perfect activity for the child who loves to taste the icing as you put it on the house, for the child who is meticulous and loves decorating, or for the child who loves Christmas s814o much that any holiday activity will make their day. Every year, our family decorates a gingerbread house to put in our living room to add to our Christmas decorations. The family time that we spend decorating the house and finding the perfect spot for it every year is a valuable memory for all of us. Each person plays a role as we decorate our house. Heather and Elise Schenk are perfect for decorating the house with their artistic abilities, while Tim and Kaitlynn Schenk are perfect for eating the candy and icing as they decorate, and Ethan and Jason Schenk love spending the time decorating the house because it is a fun tradition that gets them in the mood for Christmas. The memories that each of us have from these experiences are ones that we will never forget, and ones that we look back on throughout the rest of the year just waiting for it to be that time of year again. We want you to have these fun family Christmas traditions as well. There is nothing greater in this world than having the opportunity to spend times like these with your children before they are all grown up and have families of their own.

Thanksgiving is a special holiday in the Schenk family. Thanksgiving is a time when we reflect on all that God has done in our lives, and how He has blessed us with this wonderful business where we have the opportunity to serve our customers every day. Thanksgiving is also a time when we spend quality time together as a family. With Granddad and Grandmom Schenk coming here from Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving every year, we are reminded of the unique baking talent that has been passed down for 3 generations in the Schenk family, and how much God has blessed our family with these talents. We are so thankful for our customers too because you make this passion of ours a reality.

Thanksgiving also means so much to our family because some family traditions that we have are irreplaceable. Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, our family goes to a local Christmas tree farm to cut down the Christmas tree that is to be in our house until January. For us, Thanksgiving signifies the official start of the Christmas season, and who doesn’t love the cold air filled with Christmas carols and hot chocolate in your hands and Christmas parties with ugly sweaters?

Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday of ours, and all of our favorite Thanksgiving pies and holiday treats help make it even better every year. We want you and your family to have some awesome Thanksgiving family traditions that start with Montgomery Bakehouse.

  • Happy Thanksgiving

    Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and we don’t want you to miss out on Montgomery Bakehouse desserts to accompany your Thanksgiving feast. We will be open on Wednesday, November 25th, until 6 P.M. and closed on Thanksgiving Day, so be sure to place your order in time. Some favorites for Thanksgiving include our pies, pumpkin rolls, and sweet breads, and if you aren’t a pie person, we have some tasty turkey cakes that are perfect for your dining room table. We also have 821corn bread, bisc020 (1)uits, and dinner rolls to go with your turkey and gravy. With Thanksgiving so close, it is always good to remember why we celebrate Thanksgiving today. When the Pilgrims arrived in the fall of 1620, they were not prepared for the harsh winter they would experience in
New England. Because of this, many of them died before spring. It was around spring, that two Indians named Samoset and Squanto helped teach the Pilgrims how to live off the land, and built a long lasting peace treaty between the two groups of people. That summer, the Pilgrims reaped a large harvest, therefore they felt it necessary to have a three day feast in December to thank God for their harvest and to celebrate with their Indian friends. For their first Thanksgiving feast, 90 Indians joined 50 Pilgrims. Their feast included shellfish, lobsters, turkey, corn bread, berries, deer, and other foods. They also participated in fun activities and prayer. For more great information on the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, visit http://www.waIMG_4587llbuilders.com/libissuesarticles.asp?id=17984. It is so important for us to reflect on everything we have this Thanksgiving, and thank God for everything He has given us, just as the Pilgrims did in 1621. We should also continue to thank God for this great nation that He was instrumental in creating through great people like the Pilgrims and also continue to pray for our nation and our leaders.

Get Your Fall Fix with Pumpkin Desserts

pumpkin cheesecake2With Halloween being just two weeks away and with the fall weather and fall festivities quickly approaching, it is no surprise that this Wednesday, October 21, is National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day. Our pumpkin cheesecake recipe dates all the way back to Tim Schenk’s Pop-Pop, John Schenk. He made this delicious pumpkin cheesecake at his bakery in Germantown, Pennsylvania. When Tim’s dad, Ken Schenk, took over the bakery, he continued to make these yummy pumpkin cheesecakes. Tim has now continued that tradition and makes the pumpkin cheesecakes every year around the fall time. Be sure to stop by to not only get your pumpkin cheesecake to celebrate, but also get our other delicious pumpkin items. Although sometimes pumpkin items can be over done around this time of the year, you can never go wrong with too many pumpkin desserts. • Celebrate Columbus Day with Sweets

    Celebrate Columbus Day with Sweets

With Columbus Day coming up, what better way is there to spend your holiday weekend with Montgomery Bakehouse sweets? Whether you have off work or school, or not, some of our fall treats and other classic Bakehouse sweets will make the perfect weekend combination. Thanks to Columbus, we have this widely known “new world”. Although he was not the first to discover it, he becam38e the face of North America because of his brave trip here and because he made the attributes of North America so well known to the others living in Europe at the time. If it had not been for him, we may not be living in or have the same country that we live in today.  After everyone telling Columbus that there was no way that he could sail the other direction to reach the West Indies, it is so inspiring to see that Columbus never gave up on his dream, and in turn discovered what would become the greatest nation in the world. It is so amazing to  look back on our American heritage and truly see how God had such a big role in shaping our country in everything from Columbus happening to find North America to the founding fathers creating a government unlike any other government around during that time, and what would become the longest governing document. To find out more about America’s godly heritage, visit http://www.wallbuilders.com. This is a great organization that we as a family support, and we encourage others to research them and their mission. To celebrate all of America’s heritage, try our delicious George Washington Cake. This is a molasses cake with a pie crust bottom, and chocolate icing on top. Although it may not be named after Columbus, without Columbus, America may not have seen such a great man as George Washington. Come in today and on Columbus Day to try this delicious treat!

  • Fall Treats Are Here

    Fall Treats Are Here

It is finally October, and with the weather getting a little cooler, we have brought out all of our delicious fall treats. We have all kinds of seasonal sweet breads, muffins, pastries, pies, and cakes. It is always a family tradition of ours to eat our delicious Apple Dumplings on the first day of fall every year. An Apple Dumpling is a peeled and cored apple with cinnamon and sugar in the middle wrapped with pie dough. When we lived in Pennsylvania, it was also a family tradition to go to a local apple orchard to pick fresh apples and drink homemade apple cider at the beginning of fall each year. Although we cannot do this anymore, we still have apple cider shipped to us every year from the same apple orchard that we went to for years. These family traditions help us get in the mood for fall, and make the perfect combination of  tasty food with family IMG_8960fun!IMG_4587 Along with apple dumplings, we have pumpkin spice, pumpkin chocolate chip, and pumpkin cream cheese sweet breads and muffins. Our pumpkin roll, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin cheesecake are also back, and they are perfect desserts to bring to any seasonal party.
